Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog

Exhibit Opens Saturday, May 19th

Board the Birdwell Island ferry and journey to the world of Clifford™, America's beloved big red dog with a heart to match. See Emily Elizabeth™ and many of the residents of Birdwell Island. Inspired by Scholastic Entertainment's top-rated TV show Clifford The Big Red Dog® on PBS KIDS®, the exhibit offers numerous immersive "paws-on" adventures that reinforce "Clifford's Big Ideas"—ten simple tangible life lessons designed to help young children navigate their world: Share, Play Fair, Have Respect, Work Together, Be Responsible, Be Truthful, Be Kind, Believe in Yourself, Be a Good Friend and Help Others. Adventures with Clifford The Big Red Dog opens at Children's Discovery Museum on May 19, and will be here through September 9, 2012.

Kids can visit a colossal nine-foot high Clifford, help fill Clifford's big dog bowl with bones using a conveyor belt, and create sand art and find "bone"-ifide treasures at T-Bone's Beach. Browse the Norman Bridwell Art Retrospective and see 40 years (that's 280 dog-years!) of artwork and stories by the creator and award-winning author of Clifford The Big Red Dog.

On View

Yarn Bombing

View a collaborative yarn bombing effort, and add to it! A tactic used by artists to personalize, beautify, or otherwise "claim" public space by creating knit or crochet installations, yarn bombing is a non-permanent form of graffiti. While yarn bombing is removable and not harmful to property, it is typically done without permission. CDM, however, has given artist Angie Schertle (along with some talented cohorts and Museum staff and visitors) full permission to create a knit and crochet installation on a tree in front of the Museum. Tucked inside of tiny pockets attached to the trunk of the installation, you should find lengths of yarn that the artist is inviting you to tie-on to further enhance the base of the installation.

Journey, a short film by artist JD Beltran

Portal

On view daily at the City Windows Gallery at San Jose City Hall

The short film, Portal, was produced as a companion to a public artwork, Portal, which is projected nightly at the corner of W. San Fernando St. and S. Almaden Blvd. in Downtown San Jose. Both projects by JD Beltran reflect on the deep past, the collapse of time, and how we visualize time through art. The short film and public artwork were inspired by the discovery of "Lupe," the juvenile Columbian mammoth that is currently the subject of a new, major exhibition at the Museum. JD Beltran is a conceptual artist, filmmaker and writer whose work has been exhibited, screened and recognized internationally. For more information about Portal, visit: www.cdm.org/portal.
